Bluff House
- Homeowners build on a lot subdivided off the downtown Boulder property where one of them grew up.
- Design emphasis on balancing spectacular Flatirons views with solar control and cooling.
- Tall windows allow views in, while tall ceilings and operable clerestory windows keep summer heat in control (even in its first summer the owners reported the house stayed cool).
- Heated efficiently by radiant floor heat. Cooled by swamp cooler.
- Other environmentally friendly features include small footprint (under 2,500 sf), ipea (sustainably harvested hardwood), deep eaves and overhangs, high efficiency appliances and boiler, low-emissivity interior finishes.
- Stylistically the building has the contemporary feel of a loft apartment with the owners' love for the southwestern and south american native art.
- The interiors provide large spaces to showcase large art pieces as well as custom shelving for smaller collected objects.
