Harvey M. Hine Architects, P.C.
Jessor / Menken Residence in Boulder County
The innovative shape of the house is composed of curving forms contrasted by a right-angled thick wall to the south and west. The strong Colorado sunlight penetrates the interior through numerous small windows puncturing the thick wall. A three-story slot containing a stair that that runs in a long continuous line separates the wall from the living spaces.
Each of the residence's four levels has direct access to exterior decks and the roof top garden has a 360-degree panoramic view of the Front Range and the City of Boulder. The second and third floors are open to each other in an explosion of space. Throughout, the owners have integrated their collection of art with the architecture.
For the owners, the residence needed to be part of a lifestyle that included a commitment to the outdoors as well as to the life of the mind. The house frames a view to the outside world for the owners within. To the outside world, the house presents an image of an authentic way of living.
