My client purchased the existing home with the soul intention of building her dream at a prime central Boulder location. The home was an early 20th century one-story bungalow consisting of 981 SF with two bedrooms, one bath and a one car detached garage. Her desires were to add a master bedroom suite and studio on a second story to capture the views of the Flatirons with a city park in the foreground. The design also required a new kitchen, laundry room, library, dining room and an additional one car garage that would double as a shop. The finished home includes 3 bedrooms, one used as a studio, and 2 3/4 baths. With the addition, the finished size is 2476 SF with a new 600 SF garage.

My company managed the construction of the home to ensure the design intent was followed through. We helped our client through to the interior trim stage where she personally finished her home. The home was completed in August of 2005.

The design and construction of this home was a great experience for myself as well as for my client. She has an appreciation for the work done by Frank Lloyd Wright and one can see the inspiration in the finished product. She enrolled in an architectural design course while we were designing her dream home, so needless to say she played a big part in the design. Being retired she had time to get involved not only in design but also the construction. Yes the construction!

My client participated in the construction by doing some demolition, organization, clean up and eventually doing almost all of the interior trim herself. While doing the demolition, she salvaged the wood planking from the existing roof to use for her new kitchen floor. She had it re-milled and creatively utilized the knotholes to inlay small personal treasures from her life. My client was on site almost every day adding her creative input as well as fresh baked goods and hot coffee for the laborers. She amazed me with her drive and abilities as she contributed to creating her dream. We built a great relationship as well as a beautiful home. This was by far one of the most satisfying projects I have had the privilege to be involved in.
